The corresponding key of this type is cylindrical or tubular in shape. This kind of lock is commonly seen in the form of computer or bicycle locks, and other coin-operated devices like vending machines.
Many people believe that tubular style locks are generally safe and more resistant to picking compared to their standard counterparts, as they are commonly used and seen in public places. Despite this belief, this type has some issues when it comes to security.
Advantages of tubular locks
This type of lock is commonly found on all door types. In fact, this can be found in residential doors and office doors too. They offer excellent security for most applications. Apart from this, here’s one security device that is quite easy to install, especially if your door already has standard boreholes. In addition, you can easily get this replaced when they are damaged or you want to upgrade your door locks. When installing, make sure that your latch comes with the correct backset length. This length is measured from the edge of the door towards the center of the borehole. After this, you can simply follow the systematic guide noted in the installation instructions.
Disadvantages of the tubular style
Like all locks, this type has some disadvantages that you should take note of. For instance, this type has limited choices when it comes to material options and trims style. If you are looking for a specific style in a lock, this may not be the best option for you. The construction is not solid in comparison to the mortise type. Thus, it may not be the best option if you are looking forward to installing high security locks for your home.
